Gaming4Coding is an Erasmus-projekt with the aim of developing a game where K-12 students should learn how to program in Python. At the same time as the game must be joyful to play, it should be a game where girls also should feel welcome to play and learn.

- using a videogame to promote coding skills in the younger population

The main objective of this project is to use the highly motivating features of game-based learning to promote interest in coding in young people, and especially in girls. Videogames can offer challenging goals in scenarios where players need to discover the rules with high interactivity, and immediate feedback that achieve a great player engagement.

To assess that this will be achieved, and that girls will feel welcome to play and learn, is the research part of the project. An interesting detail in the game design is to build-in a 'Stealth Assessment', a learning analytics feature that doesn't disturb the gameplay or the learning process.

This will be carried out in collaboration with a game developing company in Germany, and a university and a teacher organisation in Spain, and schools in different countries. That the girl friendly design works will also be tested by the Makemovent organisation 'Geek Girls Sundsvall'. The game, and other project deliverables will be accessible from the project's web portal.
